The Seven Rila Lakes

The seven Rila lakes are glacial lakes located in the Rila Mountains. These lakes are connected in a terraced manner, and the streams connecting them form small waterfalls due to the difference in altitude.
The seven Rila lakes have their own names: Tear, Eye, Kidney, Twin, Clover, Fish and Seventh Lake. Each name is given according to the characteristics of the lake.
The Tear Lake is so named because the water is so clear that you can see the bottom. It is a small lake with a depth of 4.5 m and an area of 7 hectares, and is located at the highest point at 2535 m above sea level. The second lake has a clear oval shape, which is why it is called Eye. This lake is the deepest lake in the Balkan Peninsula, with a depth of 37.5 m. The next lake is uniquely shaped like a kidney, which is why it is called Kidney, and it has the steepest shores among these lakes. The fourth is the Twin Lake, the largest of the seven lakes, with an area of 91 hectares. The Rabbit Grass Lake is irregularly shaped and has low shores, making it a good place to observe the lake. The sixth lake is the Fish Lake, with the shallowest depth of 2.5 m and reeds and grass growing along the shore. The seventh lake is the lowest lake, which collects water from other lakes and forms the Dzherman River.
On Lake Rila, there are frequent gatherings of the so-called White Brotherhood, who gather from March 22 to September 22 to perform a ritual dance called Panevritmiyya. They all wear pure white clothes and stand in a circle to dance, so it would be a good experience to prepare white clothes according to the schedule and participate.
