The multi-instrument duo 'OLOT' will perform under the title 'Korean
Meditation Sound : OLOT' at the World Music Festival 'JAM ON THE RIVER'
and 'Sofia Music Week,' invited by a Bulgarian organization from September
13 to 19.
'OLOT' is a duo group formed in 2020, consisting of musicians Kim Han-gil
(Piri, Saenghwang) and Yoo Sun-kyung (Haegeum, Yanggeum). The name
'OLOT' is derived from the pure Korean word '오롯이' (orot-i), reflecting their
desire to deliver their music to the public without any shortcomings. They
showcase a contemplative and meditative sound using various traditional
Korean instruments.
'OLOT' has been selected for 'Journey Choice' at the 2023 Journey to Korean
Music event organized by the Korean Arts Management Service Center. They
received acclaim for their music described as 'endlessly listenable' and 'music
that resonates within me,' paving the way for their advancement into
international markets.
'JAM ON THE RIVER' and 'Sofia Music Week' are international music festivals
held in Bulgaria, featuring a variety of Bulgarian and international artists each
year. At this year's festival, 'OLOT' plans to present a program that
encompasses both traditional and modern aspects of Korean culture to the
audience.
Additionally, through the Sofia residency program, 'OLOT' will collaborate with
'Flying Nomads,' a Balkan music duo that creates music for the soul and
communicates with nature and the ancient world.
'OLOT' and 'Flying Nomads' are both engaged in creating music through
research based on their local regions. They will showcase songs created
through their collaboration and the ‘SOUNDSCAPE’ recorded directly in
Bulgaria at the 'Regional History Museum(Plovdiv).‘
Meanwhile, this Bulgaria tour was made possible through the planning and
support of the Korea Foundation for Traditional Performing Arts and Hana Art
Network (CEO: Kim Su-mi). 'OLOT' expressed, "We hope this Bulgaria tour will
serve as an opportunity to foster the fusion of Korean and Bulgarian cultures
and expand our artistic reach.“
